Crypto POS system: how a point-of-sale system can take crypto

Crypto POS system explained: how a point-of-sale system can accept crypto, what Qvard plans for its POS terminal and what works today through the API.

A crypto POS system is point-of-sale software that takes crypto payments next to cash and cards. Qvard plans a POS terminal, and it is not released yet. This guide shows how a POS system can connect to the live v1 API today, and where a dedicated terminal would fit later.

What a crypto POS system needs

A POS system needs a way to create a payment for the sale total, show a scannable payment link, and receive the final status to close the sale. Everything else, such as receipts and stock, stays in the POS software.

Status: the Qvard POS terminal is on the roadmap

A Qvard POS terminal is not released yet, and this article does not present it as a finished device. The integration below works today with the API, the hosted page and the webhook.

The integration today

The POS software sends POST /api/v1/payment with the x-api-key header and the sale id and total, receives a redirectUrl, and shows it as a QR code or link. The webhook then returns the final status to close the sale in the POS.

POST/api/v1/payment
x-api-key: sk_live_…

{
  "id": "order_1024",
  "price": 149.99,
  "paymentSystemId": 12
}

// 201 Created
{
  "data": {
    "id": "8f3k2a1c",
    "redirectUrl": "https://my.qvard.com/pay/8f3k2a1c"
  },
  "code": 201,
  "message": "success",
  "status": true
}

Map the sale to the payment

Use the sale id as id, so that each payment is linked to exactly one sale. The total in USD goes into price.

Close the sale on the webhook

The POS closes the sale and prints the receipt only after the webhook delivers paid. Pending sales can be shown as waiting, so the cashier knows the money has not arrived yet.

Plan the upgrade path

When a dedicated terminal is released, it can take over the QR step. The POS software, the sale records and the webhook handling will not change.

FAQ

Can my POS software accept crypto today?

Yes, if it can send an HTTPS POST, show a QR code or link and receive a webhook. The Qvard POS terminal is on the roadmap.

Which field links a payment to a sale?

The id field carries your sale id, so each payment maps to one sale in your system.

Does the POS need a special plugin?

No. Any POS that can call a REST endpoint and receive a webhook can integrate with the API.

How do I test the POS integration?

Create a demo invoice from a test sale and confirm that the POS closes the sale when the webhook arrives.
